![]() The book presents itself as Thomas’ own writings and memories as an older man and the entire book is written as though it were a hasty transcription of a man giving a story in a single sitting. The first thing which struck me about this book is the writing style and the voice of the main character, Thomas McNulty. Although I will concede that there are many beautiful descriptions, the characters are all seriously lacking in any consistency and depth and the pacing is at times so painfully slow I did wonder how so little had happened in so many pages. What ‘Days Without End’ achieves in lyricism and escapism is totally overshadowed by the many flaws which loom over this book. This book was far from a masterpiece in my opinion, I’m questioning how my view can differ so much from writers I so seriously respect. ![]() I am very disappointed with the various reviews with decorate the front and back of this book especially from Kazuo Ishiguro who called this book ‘A true leftfield wonder … A violent, superbly lyrical western offering a sweeping vision of America in the making’. ![]() I wished this book had ended sooner, I strongly disliked it. ![]()
